Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Pearl is a mixture of mineral and organic material formed with the soft living tissue of a shelled mollusk. Pearls, especially freshwater varieties, can occur in varied and unusual but beautiful shapes.

Description:

Pearl signifies faith, charity and innocence. It enhances personal integrity and helps to provide a focus to ones attention. Pearl symbolises purity and is known as a “stone of sincerity”. It brings truth to situations and loyalty to a “cause”. Inhibits boisterous behaviour. Some healers use pearls to help balance body rhythms and hormone levels with lunar cycles, and to harmonise human beings with the natural world. The inner glow (orient) of pearls is thought to tap inner wisdom and nurture love. Zodiac, Gemini and Cancer.

Symbolism. In many ancient Asian cultures, the smooth wholeness and seemingly “magical” appearance of pearls in such lowly lifeforms as oysters indicated the presence of divinity. The pearl represented the journey of the soul or spirit along the path to perfection. In ancient burials, mourners placed pearls in the mouths of the deceased. Since pearls apparently contained the principles of life, they hoped they could assist the dead on their journeys beyond. Mourners also decorated burial gifts and clothes with pearls. This seemingly ritual act may have started as a practical act. Pearls were among the first materials used for beads. Their natural bead-like shape made them easy to use for decoration and yielded lovely results.
